Dating with a CGM

The sensor is visible. Your entire medical history does not have to be.

01

Your two-sentence version

Try: ‘It is a glucose sensor. It helps me manage Type 1 Diabetes.’ Then decide whether you want to say more. Curiosity is fine; entitlement to your health details is not.

02

Devices and closeness

You can name what is comfortable around a sensor or pump site. If an alarm goes off, explain what kind of help—if any—you want.

Keep this bit
  • Practise the explanation you want to use.
  • Bring spare adhesive or supplies for an overnight stay.
  • A respectful partner will follow your lead.

Safety note: Never stop insulin or change doses from an article. Follow your personal care plan and contact your diabetes team for individual advice. Severe hypoglycaemia, unconsciousness, trouble breathing, persistent vomiting or suspected DKA needs urgent local medical care.
