GLUCOSE GOSSIP HUB — COOKIE POLICY
Last updated: 11 October 2026
Website: https://www.glucosegossiphub.com
At a glance
Glucose Gossip Hub uses strictly necessary cookies and similar technologies to keep the website secure, remember your cookie choice, and provide features you ask to use. We use optional analytics cookies only if you choose to accept them. Analytics helps us understand how many people visit Glucose Gossip Hub, which pages are useful, where visitors generally come from, and how people find and use the site.
You can refuse analytics cookies and still use the public Glucose Gossip Hub website.
1. What are cookies?
Cookies are small text files that a website can place on your browser or device. They can help a website remember information about your visit, keep a session secure, remember preferences, or measure how the website is used.
This policy also covers similar technologies, such as local storage, where they are used for the same kinds of purposes.
2. How Glucose Gossip Hub uses cookies
A. Strictly necessary cookies
These are used only where needed to operate the website or provide a feature you request. They may include:
• security and session functions needed for sign-in, member areas, or admin areas;
• remembering whether you accepted or refused optional cookies;
• fraud, abuse, security, or traffic-management protections; and
• other storage that is essential for a feature you actively choose to use.
Strictly necessary cookies are not used for advertising. Some parts of the website, such as sign-in, may not work correctly if you block all cookies in your browser.
B. Analytics cookies — Google Analytics 4
If you click “Accept cookies,” Glucose Gossip Hub uses Google Analytics 4 (GA4) to understand how the public website is being used.
Analytics may collect information such as:
• the pages you view and page titles;
• the website or link that referred you to Glucose Gossip Hub;
• general traffic-source information, such as search, social media, or direct visits;
• session and visit information;
• approximate geographic information, such as country or general area;
• browser, device, and operating-system information; and
• selected interactions with public features, such as clicks on Donate, Volunteer, Submit a Resource, Join/Register, Newsletter, Share Your Story, or T1D Access Navigator links.
Glucose Gossip Hub must NOT send the following to Google Analytics:
• your name or email address;
• phone numbers or other direct identifiers;
• form answers or free-text submissions;
• private member submissions or account content;
• medical records;
• health information;
• glucose values, insulin information, medication information, or treatment details; or
• any other information that could identify you or reveal sensitive health information.
We do not use Google Analytics to diagnose anyone, create a health profile, personalise medical advice, or make decisions about an individual person.
C. Advertising and remarketing
Glucose Gossip Hub does not currently use cookies for Google Ads, remarketing, personalised advertising, or advertising profiles.
Advertising-related consent settings should remain denied unless Glucose Gossip Hub deliberately introduces an advertising service in the future. If that ever changes, this policy must be updated and visitors must be given a clear consent choice before advertising cookies or identifiers are used.
D. Third-party content and links
Glucose Gossip Hub may link to external websites, hospitals, organisations, research sources, social platforms, or other third-party services. Those websites have their own cookie and privacy practices.
If Glucose Gossip Hub later embeds third-party content that requires non-essential cookies or tracking, that content should not activate those technologies until the appropriate consent has been given.
3. Google Analytics cookies we may use
If you accept analytics cookies, GA4 may set first-party cookies including:
_ga
Purpose: distinguishes users for analytics measurement.
Default Google expiry: up to 2 years.
_ga_<container-id>
Purpose: stores and persists session state for GA4.
Default Google expiry: up to 2 years.
Browser privacy rules may shorten these periods. Glucose Gossip Hub may also use a strictly necessary consent-preference cookie or equivalent storage to remember whether you accepted or refused analytics cookies. We intend to keep that preference for a reasonable period, currently up to 6 months, unless the website changes in a way that requires us to ask again sooner.
4. Your cookie choices
When the cookie banner appears, you can:
• Accept analytics cookies; or
• Refuse analytics cookies.
Refusing analytics cookies does not prevent you from reading or using the public parts of Glucose Gossip Hub.
Analytics cookies are off until you actively accept them. Glucose Gossip Hub uses the basic form of Google Consent Mode so that Google Analytics is blocked before consent. If you refuse analytics cookies, the analytics tag should remain blocked and no analytics data should be sent to Google from that visit.
You can change your choice later through a “Cookie settings” link on the website. Withdrawing consent will not affect analytics processing that lawfully occurred before you changed your choice, but it will stop future optional analytics collection from your browser once your preference is updated.
If you clear your browser cookies or use a different browser or device, we may need to ask for your choice again.
5. Information shared with Google when analytics is accepted
When Google Analytics is enabled after your consent, your browser may send information needed to provide the analytics service, including the page URL, browser/device information, network information and an IP address used for communication and approximate location processing.
Google states that Google Analytics 4 does not log or store individual IP addresses. GA4 uses first-party identifiers, such as the _ga cookie, to distinguish users and sessions for measurement.
Glucose Gossip Hub does not currently use Google Analytics data for personalised advertising.

6. Health information and privacy
Glucose Gossip Hub is a Type 1 Diabetes community and resource platform. Health information is sensitive and deserves additional protection.
Our analytics setup is therefore designed to measure website usage, not people’s medical lives. Analytics must not receive health form responses, diagnosis details, glucose or insulin data, private stories, private messages, account content, or other sensitive submissions.
Where possible, analytics events should use simple, non-sensitive labels such as “volunteer_click” or “resource_submit_opened” rather than transmitting the content a person entered.
7. Children and young people
Glucose Gossip Hub may be useful to young people and families affected by Type 1 Diabetes. We do not use analytics cookies to build advertising profiles of children or young people, and we do not intentionally send children’s private account information or health information to Google Analytics.
Optional analytics remains subject to the same consent controls described in this policy.
8. How long analytics information is kept
Google Analytics cookies may remain on a browser for the periods described above unless they are deleted earlier, expire earlier because of browser rules, or you change your cookie preference.
Glucose Gossip Hub intends to configure GA4 user-level and event-level analytics retention to no more than 14 months. Aggregated reports that no longer identify an individual visitor may be kept for longer where needed to understand long-term website performance and impact.
9. How to manage cookies in your browser
Most browsers let you view, delete, block, or limit cookies. You can usually find these controls in your browser’s privacy or security settings.
Blocking all cookies may affect website features that depend on strictly necessary cookies, such as sign-in or session security. Refusing only analytics cookies should not prevent normal use of the public website.
10. Changes to this Cookie Policy
We may update this policy if Glucose Gossip Hub changes its analytics tools, introduces a new third-party service, changes how cookies are used, or needs to reflect new legal or regulatory requirements.
If we introduce a new non-essential purpose that is not covered by your previous consent, we will ask you to make a new choice before using it.
